Introduction

Hello and welcome to my blog, my name is Maryn Chambers and when I grow up, I would like to play dress up and spend my free time frolicking in the woods and tending to my fairy garden. But like, the realistic, adult version of that. This marketing class is a step towards fulfilling that dream in a feasible way. I hope to one day make a living in the fashion/entertainment industry, which I'm hoping to do with the Bachelor's in Apparel Design degree I'm pursuing through dual enrollment at LBCC and OSU. I'm open to really any job I can get with my degree, from designing costumes for media to owning my own business or brand, as long as it makes me happy. So far in my experience as an employee, work has never been something I've gotten much fulfillment from. I wish I was someone who could wake up and think, "I'm so excited for another day as a food service worker" with passion rather than sarcasm. I decided within 2 months at Dairy Queen that I could not give away that much time of my life for that price for very long, or at any price for that matter. We spend so much time out of our lives working to live and consume products, which is why I'm interested in marketing. I want to know how to make my ideas reach the right people the most efficiently so I can spend less time working and less money consuming other people's products. I want to design clothes and make enough playing dress up to sustain a life of time off, gardening, learning, and thrifting. Alongside fashion, thrifting is my biggest interest and passion. I'm always secretly hoping someone will bring it up so I can flex my thrifting powers. I would say about 80% of everything I buy is thrifted, from my closet to my kitchen cabinets. I first began thrifting as a way to save money and get higher quality items for the same price as Shein. One thing about thrifting is people are way too hard on themselves when they don't walk away with the same hauls you see on social media. First of all, thrifting is a skill that grows and changes with your style. Secondly, even though most of what I own in thrifted, I only leave with an average of 2-3 items a time. If you were to go to the thrift instead of Amazon or Target, you would build a collection of unique things you love over time. Plus, every item you thrift keeps one item out of the landfill, which is the main reason I'm so in love with thrifting. To keep the rant short, our planet is dying, and with consuming new products comes wasting the old ones. Your carbon footprint really appreciates any thrift purchase you make; consider this marketing for secondhand items. I could ramble on, trust me I really could, but I'll save it for any awkward silences that the future may hold. Thank you for reading my blog and definitely show me any amazing thrift finds you're proud of!
